Bike Fitting  Is the Art and Science of making you comfortable on your bike. In a broad sense
the height of a bike is related to your legs and the length of the bike is related to your torso and arms.
When you straddle a bike the top tube should be between an inch and three inches from your crotch.
The length of the bike is more subjective.

Road Biking

Fit Kit

Is a patented system in which we take seven body measurements and put them in our computer and it gives us a set of dimensions of an ideal bike for you.  We then put you on this size bike and proceed to fine tune your fit.  In some cases it is necessary to use our  "Stem Sizer" which allows us to place your bike on a trainer and move the handlebars to a position which makes you comfortable,  then fitting a stem of these dimensions to your bike.
Entry level riders generally like to sit very upright. Professional racers generally have their back almost parallel to the ground. Most of us fall somewhere in between. Leaning forward is  more aerodynamic and becomes important if you ride 20 miles or more and putting more weight forward balances the bike for better handling. The downside is your neck will be bent back, your hands will carry more weight, there will be more pressure on the front of your saddle and in extreme cases it will cramp your diaphragm making it harder to breathe. But hey, you're having fun !!

New bikes will be fitted at no charge and have a year to have changes made.

Mountain Biking

The principles of fitting are the same, but mountain bikes don't come in as many sizes and generally have longer top tubes requiring you to adapt.

Comfort Bikes

Are designed to make you feel good. Generally  you are  in a more upright position and have front suspension, suspension seat post, and adjustable stems.

Step-in Pedals  Also known as Clipless Pedals    See Pedals

To insure a proper fit, we use a Rotational Adjustment Device (RAD). Basically we put you on a special trainer which allows us to determine if your cleats are bio-mechanically aligned with your legs, and adjust if necessary. We may also put your bike with pedals on a trainer to  have you go through a brief  familiarization
and safety check.
