Shoes
Bike shoes are designed to accept a cleat that is attached to the sole just under the ball of the foot.
There are two broad categories of shoe: walking shoes and road shoes.
The cleat on a walking shoe is recessed so it doesn’t hit the ground when walking. The shoe also flexes when you walk. These shoes come as either mountain bike or general purpose shoes, the latter looking more like a sneaker.
On road shoes the bottom doesn’t flex and the cleat projects beyond the plane of the sole. This design makes walking difficult, but that’s not what the shoe is primarily designed for. For ultimate performance and hard riding the road shoe is best. But if you’re out for the day and may want to stop for lunch or walk around a little, the general purpose shoe is probably the more practical choice.
We carry shoes from Specialized primarily but carry Sidi and other brands as well. Prices range from about $70 to $200.
